The Family Time Program provides supervised and therapeutic level visitation as well as parent coaching at varying levels based on client needs. Some issues that contributed to children being placed out of the home can be effectively addressed through our continuum of visitation services. As with all services provided by Maple Star, our Family Time Program utilizes a trauma-informed lens to provide in the moment redirection and parent coaching as necessary during a visit. Our facilitators support caregivers in gaining a deeper understanding of their children and related needs, their role as parents, and assist caregivers in developing positive parenting strategies.
Additionally, Maple Star is uniquely suited to be a resource to counties in the support of Kinship placements when they are providing Family Time supervision. Maple Star’s extensive history in developing onboarding processes for our Facilitators enables us to provide a variety of supports that will enhance a Kinship placement’s confidence, skills, and understanding of Family Time services. Examples:
It is widely recognized that the purpose of Family Time services is to support the continued bond and relationship between a child and their family members from whom they were removed, as well as assist with skill-building within the family which ultimately results in higher success rates for reunification. Maple Star’s trauma-informed, relationship-based model allows for families to connect and begin to heal during their time together and provides a safe space to promote the bonding and skill development needed as a component of successful family reunification. If the case is not progressing toward a lower level of supervision, the caseworker may use the detailed notes regarding the interactions observed during visits, and the caregiver’s receptiveness to and utilization of the feedback and support provided by the Family Time Program, to help them decide on future goals for the family.
